Jesse Newman

About the artist

Jesse Newman is a relatively new photographer, still looking for his artistic voice. Mr. Newman takes photos to stop and reflect on life experiences, to remind himself of places he has been, things he has done, and people he has loved.

In the past three years he has photographed a number of special events and taken part in a few photographic exhibitions. He wishes to create not just compelling images, but to convey questions, thoughts, and narratives. In addition to photography, he is a part-time student, full time engineer, and is the violinist in the band Olive Tiger.

Why this show?

In his words:

“The question asked, “where are all the naked men,” is a challenge to established conventions in art. The way women are depicted in art (and popular culture in general) is frequently objectifying. I welcome the invitation and the encouragement to depict nude males. I wish to demonstrate and witness a broader subset of the human experience, a different side of nudity that is not implicitly sexual, but full of form and beauty. We are force-fed that the only legitimate masculine traits are strength, dominance, anger, and unbridled virility. I believe we can change these conceptions, and demonstrate that the human experience is more universal, and more nuanced.”
